Umut Durmuş

architect

Before moving to Istanbul, I lived in Aegean cities until earning my bachelor’s degree in 2004. I completed my PhD in construction and project management at Istanbul Technical University, focusing on museums and virtual reality technologies. After working at top architectural design offices in Izmir and Istanbul, I established my own studio in 2009, where I design, research, construct, and manage projects.

Having grown up in rural and traditional settings, I have always been passionate about vernacular architecture, local construction methods, and sustainable rural development. As a registered farmer, I seek to create self-sustaining rural systems that harmonize with modern life.

Since 2009, my professional focus has been on museum and exhibition design. I collaborate with leading experts in Turkey and globally to create comprehensive museum spaces, including multipurpose halls, restaurants, educational areas, offices, and more. My role extends beyond architecture to include contracting, project management, consulting, and designing exhibition furniture and lighting.

I am drawn to the multidisciplinary nature of exhibition design, the challenges of each project, and the opportunity to work with artists and cultural professionals. My academic and professional journey centers on designing, realizing designs, and managing processes to achieve fulfilling outcomes.

This journey continues to evolve with new projects, collaborations, and experiences. I invite you to be a part of it.
