Photographs on Mardin

“…

I went onto ask my esteemed friend Ahmet Elhan, who is one of the artists in my home region that I most value and one with whom I believe we share political, cultural, social, artistic and other sensibilities, to cooperate with me in running the proposed workshop. Courteous as ever, Elhan, who has experience in organising workshops with the younger generation, accepted my offer without hesitation. What followed were numerous visits to Mardin. Then, we began cooperating with participants of whom there were more than 30 in the beginning, but as some were later obliged to drop out due to their work or school commitments, we commenced the project with the remaining, approximately 20 participants.

It is my hope that other museums in Turkey follow our example and embrace the idea of holding exhibitions of photographs by talented artists who do not easily find the opportunity to exhibit their work because of lack of contacts with the right people in the right place; by means of workshops that enable them to display their photography in a museum of this quality in an artistic environment formed by diverse complex networks of relationships.
