What we do
We work across architecture, exhibition design, consultancy, construction, and project management, with particular expertise in museums, exhibitions, collections, and cultural spaces.
Our involvement may begin with an idea, a collection, a curatorial framework, an existing building, or a specific technical problem. Depending on the project, we can take part in the entire process from early concept to opening, or contribute to a particular stage where our experience is most useful.
Museum & Exhibition Design
We design permanent and temporary exhibitions, working with the relationship between content, objects, space, and visitors. Our work may include exhibition architecture, spatial planning, visitor circulation, object placement, custom showcases and furniture, lighting, materials, graphic and multimedia coordination, technical development, production, installation, and deinstallation.
Museum Architecture & Facilities
Our work extends beyond exhibition galleries to the wider life of museums and cultural institutions. We design and advise on entrance and visitor areas, educational spaces, workshops, offices, archives, storage facilities, multipurpose halls, restaurants, cafés, museum shops, and the technical infrastructure that connects them.
Consultancy & Project Coordination
Museum and exhibition projects bring together many disciplines and forms of expertise. We help define project requirements, assemble the right team, coordinate consultants and producers, review design proposals, develop technical solutions, and maintain continuity between concept, production, and the final experience. Our role can cover an entire project or focus on a particular architectural, technical, production, or management challenge.
Collections & Art in Interiors
We advise collectors, architects, and private clients on spaces where artworks and collections form part of everyday life. This may involve placement, lighting, viewing distance, spatial relationships, installation, protection, display systems, and the relationship between an artwork and the architecture around it. We are particularly interested in creating environments where art belongs to the space without becoming simply a decorative layer.
Retail, Hospitality & Other Interiors
The experience developed through museums also informs our work beyond the cultural sector. We undertake selected retail, hospitality, residential, and public-facing interiors, approaching them through attention, movement, atmosphere, sequence, presence and the experience of arrival and encounter. We bring with us an understanding of how people notice things, how their attention moves through a space, what they feel while they are there, and what they remember afterwards.
Objects, Displays & Special Installations
We design and produce custom display structures, showcases, exhibition furniture, specialist lighting solutions, temporary environments, and installations for objects of different scales, materials, and technical requirements. We also work on projects that require unusual production methods, specialist crafts, complex installation processes, or close coordination between designers, engineers, fabricators, contractors, and art handlers.
Digital & Multimedia
Our work may include multimedia integration, digital interpretation, accessibility tools, virtual exhibition studies, and digital methods supporting design and production.
We see digital technology as one of many tools available to exhibition design, rather than an attraction in itself. When information, atmosphere, or an experience cannot be communicated as effectively through other means, digital media can be powerful, immersive, and even monumental. Particularly in long-term exhibitions, however, we are cautious about using technology primarily for spectacle. Digital systems can require substantial initial investment as well as continued maintenance, renewal, and operational resources. For us, their value lies in what they make possible, not simply in their presence.
Communication & Visibility
We see an exhibition’s reach as extending beyond the exhibition space itself. In response to its content, audience, and context, we develop communication strategies that build visibility across a range of channels, extending beyond traditional media.
From press and digital platforms to content, publications, partnerships, events, and public programmes, we identify the most relevant ways for an exhibition to connect with different audiences. This allows us to approach design, content, and communication as interconnected parts of the same project.
Rural Environments
Alongside our predominantly urban cultural work, we maintain a close connection to rural environments. Much of contemporary cultural production takes place within the intensity of cities, while rural life offers a different relationship with time, nature, material, and everyday production.
Drawing on Umut Durmuş’s architectural background and first-hand experience with agriculture and rural life, we are particularly interested in projects where contemporary living, landscape, local building knowledge, and cultural production can meet. This also opens up possibilities for thinking about how art can inhabit rural settings in ways that grow from the place itself rather than simply using the countryside as a backdrop. Our work in rural environments may involve productive landscapes, self-sustaining systems, local construction methods, and contemporary forms of living in the countryside.
