Featuring works from the Costakis Collection of the Thessaloniki State Museum of Contemporary Art, the exhibition sheds light on the rich place of the Russian Avant-Garde in the history of art.
“Imagining the Future through Art and Design. The Russian Avant-Garde” exhibition represents the Russian Avant-Garde, one of the most exciting movements in the history of art, with its rich productions in the fields of painting, design, literature, film and theater, which carried out works at the beginning of the 20th century with the aim of spreading art to all areas of life. The exhibition reflects the political, social and technological developments of the period, as well as the belief in progress of the avant-garde artists who turned their faces to science with the excitement of industrialization and carried their dreams into space by crossing the boundaries of the world.
The Costakis Collection, the world’s most important collection and archive of the Russian Avant-Garde, is now divided into two parts and kept at the Moscow State Tretyakov Gallery and the Thessaloniki State Museum of Contemporary Art.
