Children's Costumes in the Sadberk Hanım Museum Collection
The 72 objects from the museum collection selected for this exhibition throw light on both society and fashion during the period, clearly revealing Western European influences on the way children were dressed. The exhibition also looks at how Western travellers viewed childhood in Ottoman society. In particular, a travel account entitled Les quatre premiers livres des Navigations et Pérégrinations Orientales, written in the second half of the 16th century by Nicolas de Nicolay and Léon Davent, is a source of valuable information about being an Ottoman child as seen through the eyes of European travellers.
